The Importance of Exercise for Mothers
Tips for Combining Motherhood with Exercise
- Involve your children: Bring your children with you when you exercise. Take them for a walk or run in the stroller, or set up a mini obstacle course in the backyard for them to play on while you do some strength training exercises.
- Find a workout buddy: Working out with another mother can be motivating and fun. You can take turns watching each other’s children while you exercise, or bring the kids along for a playdate while you work out together.
- Utilize naptime: Use naptime as an opportunity to get in a quick workout. Pop in an exercise DVD or do some yoga in your living room while your little ones are sleeping.
- Be flexible: Be open to adjusting your workout routine to fit your busy schedule. If you only have 20 minutes to work out, make it count by doing high-intensity interval training (HIIT) or a quick circuit of bodyweight exercises.
- Make it a family activity: Sign up for a family-friendly fun run or walk. Participating in a family event is a great way to bond with your children while also getting some exercise.
